God is Hidden from Science.
If we consider science from a worldview that admits the possibility of a God or a super-natural realm, we find the necessity of that God or that realm remaining hidden from the realm of science.
Let us consider the necessity of this principle in order for there to be the existence of scientific observation and documentation.
If there indeed is a realm that is super-natural, that is beyond the reach of scientific observation or scientific prediction, then in order for science to exist, it is necessary for the super-natural principles not to interfere with the natural realm (the scientific realm) in all but the most rare instances, and especially in the realm of scientific observation, such as the laboratory or through the microscope or telescope.
Why is this necessary? Because science could not exist without it. If there is a God who desires that we can learn about the universe that he created, as we are apparently now able to learn, he must hide himself and his interactions from scientific observation.
Let us take for example the "law of gravity." If today I drop a pen from one foot above the table, and God takes the pen into his hand and gently sets it on the table three seconds later, and tomorrow I drop the pen from the same height, he takes it away and gives it back to me an hour later, and the next day he does nothing and so the pen just hovers in the air until I grab it again, and so forth, there could be no such thing as science as we know it. We could never predict anything. We could never come to understand "how nature works." There could be no invention or technology.
Our very ability to understand our world or even exist in it depends on God not intervening except in infrequent circumstances. It is his great wisdom to create a universe in which all things normally happen according to the set of natural laws that he has set in place.
Now that we can and do observe such a universe that is governed by laws and a consistent order, we are then and only then able to observe and recognize the times when that order is superseded when God does step in to answer a prayer or give us a sign or perform a miracle. And they must for this very reason be rare and for the most part remain hidden from the observation of the scientist.
Science and our ability to understand nature is a gift from God that he preserves for us by not interfering with our scientific observations.
